Recovery is Right Around the Corner

Your auto insurance may already be covering the healing you need. If you've been in a car accident and have Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage, you could be entitled to professional massage therapy at little to no cost.

Many people don't realize their PIP benefits often cover therapeutic massage – benefits you've already paid for through your premiums.

At Ritual Massage and Bodywork, we handle all the insurance paperwork for you, so you can focus on your recovery.

Let's get you started!

Using Your PIP Insurance for Massage Therapy at Ritual Massage and Bodywork

What is PIP Insurance?

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is optional auto insurance coverage in Washington State that can help pay for medical treatments, including massage therapy, when you've been injured in a car accident. If you have PIP coverage, it may cover massage therapy services at Ritual Massage and Bodywork to help you recover from your injuries.

Step 1: Confirm Your PIP Coverage

Before scheduling your appointment:

  • Contact your auto insurance company to confirm you have PIP coverage

  • Ask specifically if massage therapy is covered under your policy

  • Find out how much money is available in your PIP benefit (most policies have dollar limits)

  • Get your claim number if you don't already have one

Step 2: Get a Prescription

You'll need a prescription for massage therapy from:

  • Your doctor

  • A chiropractor

  • A nurse practitioner

  • Another licensed healthcare provider

  •

The prescription should include:

  • Your diagnosis (injury details)

  • Number of massage sessions recommended

  • Frequency of treatment (how often)

Step 3: Open a Claim with Your Insurance

  • Report your accident to your auto insurance company if you haven't already

  • Request to open a PIP claim specifically

  • You'll be assigned a case manager who will handle your claim

  • Get your case manager's contact information

Step 4: Gather Important Information

Before your first appointment at Ritual Massage and Bodywork, have ready:

  • Your prescription for massage therapy

  • Insurance claim number

  • Case manager's name and phone number

  • Insurance company billing address

  • Your insurance policy information

Step 5: Schedule Your Appointment

  • Call Ritual Massage and Bodywork to schedule

  • Let us know you'll be using PIP insurance

  • Complete our Motor Vehicle Accident intake form (This will be sent after you schedule with us)

  • We'll handle the insurance verification and billing process for you

Step 6: What We Handle for You

  • Verify your benefits with your insurance company

  • Contact your case manager to confirm coverage

  • Complete all necessary billing forms

  • Submit claims directly to your insurance

  • Provide detailed treatment notes as required

  • Follow up on payments and any insurance questions

Understanding First-Party PIP Claims

At Ritual Massage and Bodywork, we offer massage therapy services covered by Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurane for those injured in auto accidents. However, it's important to understand what we mean when we say we will only bill PIP directly for first-party claims.

What is a First-Party PIP Claim?

A first-party PIP claim refers to using your own auto insurance to cover your medical expenses (including massage therapy) after an accident. PIP pays regardless of who is at fault. First party = you're the insure person using your own benefits.

How it works at Ritual Massage and Bodywork

When you file a first-party PIP claim:

  • Your insurance pays for your care: your PIP coverage will pay for massage therapy up to your policy limit.

  • We bill your insurance directly: You don't pay out-of-pocket for covered services--we handle the billing for you.

What about Third-Party Claims?

A third party claim is when you seek reimbursement from another driver's insurance (typically when they were at fault). At Ritual Massage and Bodywork, we do not bill third-party insurance directly. If you're filing a third party claim, you will:

  • Pay for treatment upfront

  • Seek reimbursement from the other driver's insurance

  • Optionally work with a personal injury attorney to assist you with the process

Important Things to Know

Benefit Limits

  • Most PIP policies have dollar amount limits

  • Benefits can be used up if you have multiple treatments or providers

Timeline Considerations

  • Severely injured clients often use PIP benefits quickly

  • If your case involves an attorney, payment timing may be different

  • We'll discuss payment options if PIP benefits become unavailable

Your Responsibilities

  • Keep all follow-up appointments with your referring doctor

  • Follow your prescribed treatment plan

  • Inform us of any changes in your condition or insurance status

  • Let us know if you're working with an attorney
